Licences & Acknowledgements

Mus’haf brings together licensed Mushaf artwork, recitation sources and software built by others with the app experience developed by Noor Technologies Ltd.

Qamar Apps · Quran 13 Line

The Mushaf page artwork and familiar 13-line layout used in the app come from Qamar Apps’ Quran 13 Line publication. They were not designed or originated by Noor Technologies Ltd.

Attribution: Quran 13 Line — Qamar Apps. Licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-SA 4.0) (external website).

We are grateful to Qamar Apps for making this material available. See the original Quran 13 Line eBook (external website) and Qamar Apps’ publication licence statement (external website).

How it is presented in Mus’haf

The underlying page images are retained. The app scales and frames the pages for the screen, including a display crop that hides the lower printed Tajweed legend, and adds interactive highlighting and conceal/reveal effects. These are app presentation changes; the original artwork files are not redrawn or recoloured. Website screenshots and video show that app presentation, with resizing and web-format conversion for display.

Attribution, sharing and adaptations

CC BY-SA 4.0 requires appropriate credit, a licence link and an indication of changes, together with retention of supplied notices. Shared adaptations must use a licence permitted by its ShareAlike conditions. No additional legal terms or effective technological measures may restrict the rights the licence grants.

Any contributions by Noor Technologies Ltd to adaptations of this artwork that we share are offered under CC BY-SA 4.0. This notice concerns the licensed artwork and its adaptations; it does not assign the same licence to unrelated app software or recordings. Our website copyright notice does not override these third-party rights. No endorsement by Qamar Apps is implied.

The full CC BY-SA 4.0 legal terms (external website), including the disclaimer of warranties and limitation of liability, govern use of the licensed material. This explanation does not replace those terms.

Recitation & audio sources

We thank the reciters and the services that make their recordings available. A reciter identifies the voice; a provider identifies the source of a particular recording. The sources below are recorded for the coming Android release, and their terms are separate from the artwork licence.

MP3Quran

The app’s source records associate MP3Quran with these seven reciters:

  • Shaykh Abdul Basit Abdus-Samad
  • Shaykh Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais
  • Shaykh Mahmoud Khalil Al-Husary
  • Shaykh Mishary Rashid Alafasy
  • Shaykh Muhammad Siddiq Al-Minshawi
  • Shaykh Saud Al-Shuraim
  • Shaykh Yasser Al-Dosari

MP3Quran also supplies recording-specific ayah timing data. Its copyright and developer-use statement (external website) permits visitors and developers to copy material or use links from its websites. This is provider-specific permission, not a Creative Commons licence for all recordings and not a transfer of recording ownership. See also the MP3Quran timing service (external website).

Qāriʾ Fatih Seferagic

The retained recording manifest identifies QuranMap as the source set, with the complete Surah Al-Baqarah recording sourced separately from QuranicAudio. These recordings are not covered by MP3Quran’s statement. See QuranMap’s terms (external website) and QuranicAudio’s source information (external website).

Recording rights remain with their respective owners. These acknowledgements identify provenance; they do not grant visitors permission to redistribute recordings or claim that every source has the same licence.

Tanzil Project · Qur’an metadata

Surah and Juz reference metadata is credited to the Tanzil Project. The retained Tanzil Quran Metadata v1.0 file states: Copyright (C) 2008-2009 Tanzil.info, with a licence declaration of cc-by (Creative Commons Attribution). That file does not specify a licence version, so none is assigned here.

This credit concerns reference metadata, not the Qamar page artwork or ownership of the 13-line layout. The original metadata file is retained verbatim in the app. Read the Tanzil metadata documentation (external website), original metadata XML and its licence declaration (external website), or our preserved Tanzil metadata notice (plain text).

Open-source software

The Android app’s retained software notices acknowledge these components under the Apache License 2.0:

We preserve the app’s software acknowledgements (plain text) and the complete Apache License 2.0 text. The official Apache License 2.0 (external website) sets out the applicable conditions, including copyright, licence and notice retention.

This is a selected set of recorded acknowledgements, not an assertion that every dependency or service uses Apache 2.0. The website uses plain HTML, CSS and JavaScript without a third-party browser framework.

Attribution enquiries

If you have a question about an acknowledgement, or believe a credit needs correcting, please contact us. We welcome accurate source information and will review it carefully.
